Our Neighborhood
The Historic Dorsey Riverbend neighborhood is one of Fort Lauderdale's most storied areas — today, we enjoy quiet residential streets lined with mature trees, original architecture like our authentic 1940s bungalows, and a genuine sense of community that feels increasingly rare in South Florida. There's a lot of honking and waving going on around here!
Our neighborhood is home to several places of worship, including New Mount Olive Baptist Church and Mount Hermon AME Church, two longstanding congregations that reflect the area’s rich faith traditions and community heritage. Visitors are welcome.
We have a Gothic church on the east side and the Old Dillard Cultural Arts Museum on the west. We highly recommend touring the Old Dillard Museum, founded in Broward County's first Black high school. During your museum visit, see The Jazz Room: “Language of the Soul” and explore more about local history and the African Diaspora.
Like so many downtown neighborhoods, ours is also changing. We have a new YMCA just a few blocks away (with a swimming pool!) and new apartment blocks are going up. Our neighborhood still isn't walkable, per se, as you will not find a coffee shop nearby. We suggest checking out the Kimchi Mart (Korean superstore) for an amazing selection and it's just next door to Dollar Store (about a 5 minute walk). Otherwise, you can walk for 15 minutes or ride for four minutes to be right in the middle of it all!
Be sure to see our Guest Guide for more resources. And don't worry, our neighborhood is very safe. We are on Sacred Ground. Your host and co-host live within a couple of blocks. However, since this is South Florida, please exercise caution wherever you go.
