One of the most common questions guests ask before booking is whether they need a rental car. The honest answer: it depends on what you’re planning — but for most stays, you genuinely don’t.

The Brightline Train

Fort Lauderdale’s Brightline station is approximately 5 minutes from Dorsey Gardens. The high-speed rail connects Fort Lauderdale to Miami (30 min), Boca Raton, West Palm Beach, and now Orlando. If you’re coming from Miami airport or planning a day trip south, this is the easiest option.

Ride Circuit — Free Electric Rides

This is Rob’s top recommendation for guests. Ride Circuit operates free electric vehicle rides around the Fort Lauderdale area. Download the app before you arrive, and you’ll have free local transportation for short trips — to Las Olas, to nearby restaurants, around the neighborhood.

Uber and Lyft

Both are highly active throughout Fort Lauderdale and Broward County. For trips to the beach, the convention center, or the airport, a rideshare is quick and affordable.

Walking

Las Olas Boulevard is genuinely walkable from Dorsey Gardens — around 10–15 minutes on foot through pleasant neighborhood streets. Flagler Village is even closer.

When You Probably Do Need a Car

If you’re planning day trips to the Everglades, Keys, or Palm Beach — or if you want maximum flexibility to explore Broward County at your own pace — a rental car adds a lot. But for a straightforward Fort Lauderdale city stay, you can absolutely do without.
